Where to Find the Best Afternoon Tea in Wolverhampton (2018)

Afternoon Tea in Wolverhampton

Even though Wolverhampton might struggle to make it on the top ten list of ‘must see’ destinations, it is certainly not to be disregarded. With a bustling city centre, some of Wolverhampton’s main attractions include the Molineux Stadium, the University campus as well as many local quirky music venues. Frequent and regular commuting services to London also make Wolverhampton a great stopover destination for travellers.

Some of the things one should definitely consider seeing before leaving Wolverhampton, is the wolf in sheep’s clothing statue that appears on the Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s balcony every hour on the dot, and greets visitors with an ominous howl.

But this is not a travel guide, you are absolutely right. This is about afternoon tea delights and show stopping culinary creations! So, without further ado, these are the top three venues to enjoy your afternoon tea in Wolverhampton.

Afternoon Tea at The Mount Hotel Country Manor

Afternoon tea is not a simple or humble affair for The Mount Hotel Country Manor. If you think you are about to enjoy afternoon tea as you know it, think again. Apart from the delightful sandwiches on offer, The Mount Hotel has many aces up its sleeve, especially in the sweet category.

The decadent creations these very talented chefs prepare for your enjoyment are literally out of this world. Mini cakes, tortes, tarts, scones, fruit preserves, chocolate and strawberry mousses and mini cheesecakes are freshly prepared on the premises, and they are bound to satisfy even the pickiest among you.

The Mount Hotel is also mindful to dietary requirements and they are willing to adapt their menu in order to match your personal preferences. There are plenty of options, ranging from vegan to gluten free. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this magnificently elegant venue, which is surrounded by a tranquil natural setting, with plenty of natural light flooding their pentagonal dining room.

Afternoon Tea at The Old School Tea Rooms

One just cannot beat vintage charm, but not many places do it as authentically and as successfully as The Old School Tea Rooms in Wolverhampton. Cream tea has never been this warm and inviting. It feels like stepping into your grandma’s living room, minus the tack and the busy carpet.

Fine bone china, antique mirrors and the best cakes money can buy adorn this charming afternoon tea venue. High tea in Wolverhampton is a very intimate affair when visiting The Old School Tea Rooms, with every detail carefully thought through by the amazing owners. We are talking crystal bowls and sugar tongs, not sterile sugar dispensers; vintage fine bone china stands, not uninspiring, box-standard metal three tier nightmares.

The food is on par with the deco and akin to some of the finer locations we have reviewed from Chester to Hertfordshire and West Sussex. Colourful cakes, freshly made sandwiches and cheesecakes adorn the well stoked up afternoon tea trays.

The Old School Tea Rooms also make afternoon tea in Wolverhampton a much more enjoyable experience for parents, offering children’s lunchboxes with a choice of sandwiches, crisps, fairy cakes, yogurts and chocolate dips! What more could one possibly ask for?

Afternoon Tea at Hamiltons Restaurant (A Park View Hotel)

Served between 12:00 – 16:00 Tuesday to Saturday, afternoon tea at Hamiltons Restaurant is not for the uninitiated. Apart from the traditional smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, Hamiltons has introduced exotic Moroccan spiced lamb mini burgers, mozzarella and red onion bruschetta and sweet pepper roast chicken irresistible delights.

The gourmet offerings do not stop there, with salted caramel chocolate brownies and raspberry and pistachio chocolate fudges adorning its luxurious afternoon tea offering. Your afternoon tea in has just hit the A-list as you get the chance to enjoy your cream tea with a luscious cocktail from the Exclusive Hamiltons Cocktail Collection Menu.

We are a little bit disappointed with the slightly sexist ‘Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea’ though. Hamiltons Restaurant, little defenceless women love their whiskey too! In any case, Hamiltons do deliver a decent quality afternoon tea, and with a little extra notice, they also cater for children, enabling them to enjoy their own custom afternoon tea with you.

And if you love whiskey, be sure to checkout our afternoon tea in Glasgow and afternoon tea in Edinburgh articles.
